La Garde-Adhémar

A hilltop village of the Drôme Provençale region which is rated one of the «Most
Beautiful Villages in France», La GardeAdhémar offers fine viewpoints and
timeless strolls, with its fine cobbled surfaces and its «Jardin des Herbes» or
botanical garden, which has «Remarkable Garden» status.Once upon a time … a castrum or fort was founded in the XIth century by the Adhémar family, on a rocky spur overlooking the Rhône Valley and the Valley of the Rieu. Today, this fortified village fascinates passers-by and mysteriously attracts them to wander its cobbled ways and arcaded alleys. There, they experience the charm of the white stones, and the church tower of the Église Saint-Michel reveals the delicate Romanesque architecture of the structure. From the church square, a small
stairway leads to the Jardin des Herbes, an educational collection of medicinal plants, some arranged by species, set out on three terraces and with a view. An intimate and enchanting setting.
