Nestled in a lavender-tinged green sanctuary, this village redolent of the Provençal accent offers a peaceful, savoury break to hikers on the sunny GR429 trail between the Ardèche and the monastery of Aiguebelle. Located at the crossroads of ancestral paths and with the legendary Nationale 7 road running through it, Malataverne is the gateway to Provence and its undeniable charm.

Church of Saint Jean Baptiste

This church built in 1868 attracts visitors for its charm as much as for the beauty of its architecture.

The Chapel at Hameau de Rac

This is a 12th century romanesque church with a stunning view of the Rhône valley, the Vivarais mountains and foothills of Massif du Vercors.

The Chapel of Notre-Dame-de-Montchamp

Probably the oldest religious building still in activity in the parish of Notre Dame du Rhône, this chapel perched high on the hill of Montchamp becomes a pilgrimage site every 3rd Sunday of September.

Many hiking trails including the GR429 path are a fantastic opportunity for all to escape to the country for some exercise in peaceful nature.
